What is Furthon?

A convention for the people's fluff

Pawngyang Furthon is the furry convention of the Korean Peninsula, north of the 38th parallel. It is the longest-running such convention in the region. It is also the only one, which makes it the shortest-running as well. We like to cover all bases.

Every year we bring together fursuiters, artists, writers, dancers, plush enthusiasts and people who "just like the art, actually" for a weekend of panels, parades, dances, contests and very long queues. Like all great fan conventions, it is run entirely by volunteers. Unlike most, the volunteers were also selected.

Important, and not a joke

This is a parody

Pawngyang Furthon is not real. There is no convention, no badge, no guest list, no hotel block and no Mass Fursuit Games. Nobody is selling tickets, taking registrations or arranging travel, and nothing on this site is an offer of anything.

It is a comedy site. It pokes fun at the North Korean state's style - the vast spectacle, the bureaucratic language, the 105-storey hotel that never opened - and, affectionately, at the lovable chaos of fan conventions everywhere. The joke is on the regime and its theatre. It is never on the people who live under it.

The site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any real convention, government, airline, hotel, tour company or photographer. The fursuiters and cosplayers in the photographs are stock-photo subjects who have nothing to do with any of this and would probably be very confused by it.

1992

Founded

The convention is founded by a committee of three foxes and a clipboard. The clipboard is elected chair.

1993 - Juche 115

The planning phase

Thirty-three years of careful preparation. Several committees are formed to prepare the committees.

Juche 116

The first convention

Scheduled. Very scheduled. The most scheduled convention in the history of schedules.

The second convention

Will be described in official histories as even more successful than the first, which will have been perfect.

Our mascot

Comrade Kitsune

Every great anime and fan convention has a mascot, and ours has Comrade Kitsune: a fox of the people, in the people's cap, with the people's enormous sparkly eyes.

Comrade Kitsune enjoys long walks down wide avenues, synchronised swimming and drawing paws correctly on the first try. Their favourite food is cold noodles. Their favourite colour is red. Their second favourite colour is also red, but a different red.

Comrade Kitsune fan art is encouraged and will be displayed in the People's Artist Alley, next to the other Comrade Kitsune fan art, which looks exactly the same.
